All of our Leighs currently in this Modern site descend from either 74. Rev. Edmund Leigh in Carmarthenshire and Glamorgan or from 126. Oakley Leigh in Cardiganshire. If we find descendants of other early Leighs, such as 13.Bridgett Leigh or 14. Richard Leigh, we will add their branches to this page. In order to show the relations of Rev. Edmund’s and Oakley’s many descendants, we created a new line for each child or grandchild who started a distinct family group and whose members furnished us with their information. These new lines named for that earliest child or grandchild are often given a double name, e.g. Line of David Leigh, his dau Elizabeth Leigh (Griffiths). We usually stoppad with the Eleventh or Twelfth generation, and for privacy reasons we posted no information on living people.
By clicking on one of the following links, you visit a Modern line of the Leigh family and view that person’s known descendants, including the new lines formed by their children and grandchildren. On that same page, you can also access all other materials (graphic, historical, personal) for that line. Next, you can view that person’s ancestors, because the home page of each line has a “connection” or “ancestor” link to take you to the place for that line in the LEIGH DESCENDANCY CHART in the Early site. Once there, you can easily use the father/mother links to follow your own pedigree back to our earliest known ancestor.
